The best braised pork rice in Taipei at Jin Feng: 金峰魯肉飯

Braised pork rice 魯肉飯 is one of the most common dishes you can find in Taiwan. You can find them at almost every corner of the city; at every single night market you visit; and even at the breakfast spread in hotels. Oddly enough, it's hard to get sick of it. A warm bowl of rice drizzled in dark sauce, pork fats cooked so tender, they melt in your mouth. Most shops will serve them with pickled vegetables, the perfect palette cleanser to prepare your taste buds for another mouth of goodness.

We found this gem after a brief conversation with our taxi driver and he claimed that all the locals visit this store. Damn right he was! There was a line right when we arrived around 8.30pm but no frets, it moves pretty damn fast. Just be ready to share tables.

Prices are rather reasonable too! If you're not a crazy eater, you can easily be well-fed under 100TWD, that's about RM14 (USD3.30).

But knowing I'm travelling with a eating-monster-machine, diet starts tomorrow or rather, when the trip ends. For the both of us at a whooping 300TWD only, we had 2 bowls of large braised pork rice, 2 soups, 1 braised duck egg, braised pork belly, pickled bamboo shoots and boiled vegetables.

I've never had pineapple cooked in soup, ever! But that soup was so sweeeeeet. And I swear there's something special about the garlic in Taiwan. It's so spicy yet fragrant at the same time.

Will most definitely recommend anyone visiting Taipei to try this place out.

Ambiance: if you're expecting some high class air conditioned set-up then this probably isn't the right fit for you. It's the typical hawker style kind of groove.
